CUESD Textbooks for 2013-2014

The officially "Adopted Textbooks" for the Corning Union Elementary School District, for the 2013-2014 school year, are available on a list.

Common Core Standards Information

There are excellent Parent Handbooks for the new Common Core Curriculum.  These Parent Handbooks are available in both English and Spanish.  We are now using the Common Core Standards for our academic programs at all our five schools in the Corning Union Elementary School District.

Reading - Houghton Mifflin

I noticed on Kevin Mathiesen's webpage a link to Kid's Place Houghton Mifflin Reading.

You click on the grade level button for 1st to 6th grade, and enter tutorials for reading lessons. There is a word game for each lesson, vocabulary, and author information. These activities are, of course, keyed to chapters in the Houghton Mifflin reading textbooks used at our schools.

The graphics display of the games is simple, small, and left justified. They should work on anyone's screen - even for those on dial up connections with small screens.

Education Place

Students should visit the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Education Place online.

Searching for Information on the Internet

"I wanted to let you know that I've been using your Searching for Information on the Internet webpage for my students. I'm a teacher working on resource pages and your page had a lot of great stuff I could use.

Anyway, I also wanted to let you know of an article that I have also been referencing in my class, a great resource page for kids on outdoor activities, that one of my 4th graders found. I figured you might have a use for it as an additional resource link on your page above. Plus I would love to show her that the page she found is incorporated on your page. :) Let me know what you think!

Thanks Again! Sincerely, Beth Parsons"

Thanks, Beth, and I added the webpage you referenced.

English Language Arts - Medallions

We use the Houghton Mifflin Medallions textbooks for our primary grades. Our teachers use a number of online resources to support this textbook in grades Kindergarten through the Fifth Grade. Other teachers and parents might benefit from their use.

Everyday Math

We have provided information, primarily for teachers of mathematics, for our Everyday Math program. The links cover grades Kindergarten through the 6th grade.

Fourth Grade Math Resources

"Everyday Math Resources" for the 4th Grade was adopted by the Center School District. The CUESD has also adopted these mathematics resources.

A good webpage with supporting instructional resources for 4th grade students learning math can be found at Fourth Grade Math Resources.

Mathematics: Grades K-6

Mrs. Miller, Principal at Woodson and Rancho Tehama Schools, has put up a very useful collection of resources for Mathematics. The resources are arranged by Grades K-6.

History and Social Science - Grades K-8

The San Bernardino County Department of Education, from 2000-2008, developed the SCORE History/Social Sciences Resources for students and teachers.

This project was part of the Schools of California Online Resources for Education (SCORE).

The website is still a useful collection of annotated links to over 500 online resources.

Language Arts K-5

Mrs. Miller, Principal at Woodson School, and administrator for the Reading First Grant (2004-2010) has developed a comprehensive website on the CUESD language arts curriculum.

There are many resources (charts, lessons, samples, etc.) at this website which provides language arts information for parents, students, and teachers in all grades from Kindergarten to Grade 5.
